The mausoleum of Emperor Hadrian, known today as Castel Sant’Angelo, is an extraordinary monument offering a journey through history. However,a visit to the museum may be partial for those with mobility difficulties due to the complex architectural structure.
To ensure access for disabled persons, a private lift located in a secondary area of the Castle is available, providing access to different levels of the Museum:
- Level 0: you can visit the Chapel of the Condemned, the Firing Courtyard and the radial cells;
- Level 1: are the Bastions and the perimeter patrol route;
- Level 2: access to the historical rooms, the Armoury and the Angel Courtyard, with the possibility of also visiting the Alexander VI Courtyard and the Salette with the print collection.
Let us examine in more detail the accessibility of Rome’s Castel Sant’Angelo.

Conclusions
The Castel Sant’Angelo meets the basic accessibility requirements for visitors with wheelchairs. However, it does not receive a sufficient rating due to some limitations.
Therefore, although the Castel Sant’Angelo offers some basic accessibility, there are still areas that can be improved to ensure full access for all visitors.
