What the exhibition ‘Jubilee 2025’ consists of
The project explored the evolution of sacred art themes and figures over the centuries, bearing witness to the complex relationship of the community with the religious sense over time. This journey takes place inside Castel Sant’Angelo, a place whose history is closely intertwined with that of the Church.
The exhibition, conceived and curated by Mariastella Margozzi, former Director of the State Museums of the City of Rome, together with Stéphane Verger and Cardinal Angelo Comastri, is accompanied by a catalogue published by Gangemi Editore. The catalogue features essays by Cardinal Comastri, Cardinal Agostino Marchetto, Massimo Ruben Rossi and the curator herself. The texts on the artists and works in the exhibition were written by Vincenzo Lemmo, Michele Occhioni, Laura Salerno and Riccardo Salvatori.
The exhibition offers a journey through more than five hundred years of history, from the earliest works of Vittore Crivelli to the contemporary works of Omar Galliani. Through the art of past centuries, from Orazio Gentileschi to Giacomo Manzù to artists of the second half of the 20th century such as Mario Sironi and Pericle Fazzini, the exhibition explores the search for a profound spirituality. With Omar Galliani, a leading representative of contemporary figurative research, the exhibition addresses the modern representation of the mysteries of faith.
In addition, the exhibition opens up to the thinking of 20th century figures.
